Paraeducators are also known to some individuals as Classroom Aides, Classroom Assistants, Instructional Aides, Teaching Assistants, etc.
Applicants will be called to take the Hillsborough City School District Basic Academic Skills Exam prior to interviewing.
Applicants who already passed the CBEST will be waived from taking the HCSD Basic Academic Skills Exam.

Job Description:
General Description Under supervision of the school principal, perform a high level of duties to help support and assist students and classroom teacher(s).
Provides a variety of clerical support.
Must be flexible and able to adapt to a changing environment.
Essential Functions Assist with planning and implementation of individual student programs in general education and/or special education classrooms.
Assist in the preparation and maintenance of instructional materials.
Provide classroom support to the teacher(s) by setting up work areas, decorations, equipment, and displays.
Assist students with academic needs in a variety of subjects and grade levels.
Assist in classroom control by supervising small groups and/or individual students to promote the learning process.
Assist in the observation and recording of students' development and progress.
Assist in preparing, monitoring, and cleaning up program facilities.
Assist in performing classroom administrative duties, including but not limited to, grading student tests and assignments, charting student progress, data entry, requisitioning materials, copying, and filing.
Participate in appropriate meetings and professional development opportunities.
Operate orthopedic equipment and machines necessary to program operation; i.
e.
, wheelchairs, communication devices, scooter boards, and support board wedges; utilize medical instruments and equipment as required; assist students with using adaptive equipment.
Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; maintain classroom and other assigned areas in a safe, orderly, and clean manner; wipe down and disinfect classroom equipment as required.
Assist with the regular and consistent physical and hygienic needs of students, including but not limited to, toileting, toilet training, diapering, lifting, dressing, and feeding.
Assist with behavior management, behavior training and socialization of students.
Assist the teacher(s) in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
Supervise yard and community-based activities as assigned and accompany students on field trips as assigned.
Escort students to and from vehicles, classes, and other destination as assigned; load and unload students in and out of vehicles.
Help and assist any substitute by providing all needed information for students' success.
Assist in maintaining accurate records and files related to students, IEPS, attendance, and health care activities.
Operate a variety of classroom and office equipment, i.
e.
, copiers, laminators, audio-visual devices, computers, and assigned software.
Assist with coverage of other staff members as assigned.
Maintain confidentiality.
Administer medication to students as assigned.
Other related duties as assigned.
Tools/Equipment Computer, printer, copier, phone, laminator, paper cutter, calculator, instructional and manipulative tools.
Physical Demands Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stretch, kneel, stoop, twist, balance without restriction for extended periods of time.
Visual acuity sufficient to read, write and work with printed information as well as information on a computer terminal.
Auditory acuity sufficient to effectively understand information from others in person and over the telephone.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects and/or students which may exceed 50 pounds.
Ability to speak clearly and proficiently with the ability to be heard and understood on the telephone and in work site conversations.
Ability to assist in a variety of physical education lessons and activities.
Sufficient dexterity to manipulate small objects and print and write legibly.
Sufficient physical ability to reach horizontally with arms.
Sufficient depth perception to file and retrieve documents.
Temperaments This job requires some independent tasks done alone and some with one or more participating.
There is some repetitive work required.
